Tom Mathias (1866 - 1940), was a self taught photographer who worked in the Cilgerran district of the county, around the turn of the century.

Using the simplest of equipment, Mathias recorded daily life in the locality of his birthplace with an insight and affection which permeates all of his work. It is for this reason, that we have decided to include prints of all of his recovered work, including those which were significantly damaged in the years before their discovery in 1980.
