Other Trades & Industries

There have been a number of other trades and industries that were important in our County.

The presence of a once busy milling industry is found scattered around the County in the form of old windmills and watermills. There are some that are still in use today.

Brickmaking is another of Pembrokeshire's lost industries. The first brickmaking in the County began around the 17th Century. By the end of the 19th Century there were many brickworks found around the County and the industry was flourishing.

Due to the vast amount of coal readily available within the County it is not suprising that an ironmaking industry developed. The two sites located in Pembrokeshire were at Canaston, near Narberth and at Stepaside, near Saundersfoot.
