Mining and Quarrying
The majority of people would associate mining with The Valley's and places such as Merthyr Tydfil, Abdergaveny and Blaenau.
However, it is believed that coal mining began in Pembrokeshire during the 13th Century and it grew to become a big industry.
Likewise, slate quarrying is more commonly associated with North Wales rather than West Wales. However, the Pembrokeshire slate industry began and expanded long before that of North Wales.
Pembrokeshire is also home to one of only a few Silver-Lead Mines found in Wales. There are also several limestone and granite quarries found around the county.
This section tells you about the various mining and quarrying that has taken place in Pembrokeshire.
