Earthwork Castles

Pointz Castle

This castle is hidden away behind the buildings of Pointz Castle Farm, located roughly 2 miles south east of Solva. It was probably built in the late 12th century by a man named Pons, who was a tenant of the Bishop of St Davids.

Pointz Castle is a substatial motte standing at five and a half metres high and measuring ten metres across. The flat-topped summit features an 'inverted pudding basin' shape, and may have supported a timber tower at one time.
